If you are trying to watch the pennies in your monthly budget
Why Budget? Having a budget can keep yourself remided–and accountable– for all expenses. It’s easy to splurge on a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop, or spending a few extra dollars on TV and entertainment expenses each month. However, if you keep track of every expense, it will help you think more about expenses and evaluate if they are a good idea at this time. Most importantly, budgeting can ensure that money is being prioritized to go to necessities first.
Creating a budget is easier than you think, all you need is your incomings and outgoings. Take a look below to find out how to save money and how you can get things that little bit cheaper.
Watch Those Bills- Spend Less on Fees
One of the first things you can do is keep an eye on your bills as and when they come through the door. Don’t ignore any bills, always open them to see what they are. Not only can a stack of unopened bills become a problem as they accrue late fees, but you can also create stress for yourself when they come to mind.
As bills come in, keep a calendar of when they will be due next. You can set a recurring event in a phone or digital calendar.
If you feel that your bills are too expensive then you can always shop around to find cheaper deals elsewhere. Some things to shop around for or eliminate may include:
- Cell phone providers
- Cable TV
- Car Insurance providers
- Home security
- Internet service
Make sure that you are not in a set contract if you are thinking about changing your supplier or provider. This can incur extra costs that you are not prepared for, although the company will tell you of these when you ring them.
Look At Insurance Deals
If you need insurance to cover your home or yourself then it is best to shop around and find the best deal possible. Insurance quotes can vary massively so it is essential you find something that covers everything you need while being within your budget. You need to make sure you are checking reviews of companies from previous or current users and customers. This will give you a good insight into how they manage their customer’s queries and what the company itself is like. For example, if you are shopping around for life insurance it might be worth checking out Primerica reviews.
Remember, if you are a long time customer for any service listed above, it’s always a good idea to watch for rate increases. If you see a drastic rate increase, give them a phone call. You may be able to negotiate for a better deal, or even your previous rate. Being a loyal customer for a long time counts for a lot, and you can sometimes get a better deal by giving their customer service line a call. Remember, be courteous, and understand that the customer service rep has no control over what you pay monthly.
How to Spend Less on What You Need- Saving Is Key
If you are wanting to make sure you have enough money for emergencies then you might like to start a savings account. You can do this with your bank by opening a savings account or you can start saving at home.
In order to save money at home, keep it in a safe or somewhere you cannot get money out easily. Think about the older style piggy banks that needed to be broken to get the money out! Remember, if you aren’t in the place to save money right away, don’t fret. A good strategy is to give yourself time, and think about eliminating those extra expenses and budgeting as a first step.
